PORN 2010, Pix by J.S Pourre |
It all began back in 1999, when Phil D; studying psychology and sociology in France, Grenoble; decided to start his own band. Strongly influenced by The Cure, Bauhaus and Nine inch Nails, he bought a guitar and a «Guitar Part» (French guitar magazine), and started writing songs. The band would be named PORN.
When asked why, Phil D. would answer: «Because this is the exact sound of my fist hitting your skull». The band’s name is mostly an hommage to The Cure’s Pornography, but it is also a way of expressing a will to really live things, feelings and acts unrestrained: a quest for Absolutes. |
The message is not only sexual but also intellectual.
PORN played their first gig in 1999 in Marseille, France (l’Incassable Celluloïde). The band recorded their first EP in 2000, with the songs Soft machine -Porn machine, Recycle and Still. The sound was already influenced by NIN and the whole Noisy-Industrial movement (SPK, Esplendor Geometrico …), but it had kept The Cure’s Pop legacy.
Francis ZEGUT, who discovered and supported bands like Venom and Metallica in France, spotted Porn and aired Soft Machine -Porn Machine for the very first time on RTL2 in 2000.
The machine was in motion.
On September 11th, 2001, Phil D. moved to Lyon, joining his old friend Hughes B. who would be PORN’s Bassist. Lyric was then recruited in 2002. He would take care of the machines. Together they re-recorded the three songs of the first EP, plus The Fee. PORN’s sound was born.
Porn then played non-stop, receiving dithyrambic criticisms.
In 2003, Laurent Lefevre (BASE PROD), contacted the band and asked them to send a demo. A few months later they signed with Slalom Music.
PORN’s first LP, “Glitter danger and Toyboyz”, was released in 2004. Criticism was once again full of praise.
Spotted in Germany the band toured with ASP. In 2005, Porn released “Call me superfurry”. The band signed with AUSFHART in Berlin, which would take care of the distribution in Central Europe.
The phenomenon soon reached the southern hemisphere. In 2006, the record was released by Australian Label ELECTRICULT, distributed by MGM.
Meanwhile, Porn had been playing in lots of venues throughout Europe in places like l’Élysée Montmartre in Paris, l’Usine in Geneve, and Batschkapp Frankfurt Am Main…
From 2006 on, Philippe D. stopped every activity in relation to Porn, overcome by his quest for Absolutes.
From 2006 to 2009, he has worked as a DJ, Producer and Manager. In 2009, his blood thirst brought him back to life. He started to work on new songs for PORN.
“A Decade in Glitter and Danger” was released on January 5th, 2010. This Best Of is acting as a reminder of this a decade of joy, and pain.
By the end of 2009, Porn started a series of venues with the Rebirth in danger Tour. Step R joined the band on guitar and percussions. MD jumped on board on guitar. Didier Q is the new drummer.Only Hughes B. has survived the early years of Porn.
2010 : a new Era begins.
